  1. WELCOME BACK Fall 2012 NURSING 222 MATERNAL/NEWBORN

  2. COURSE OUTLINE AND CLASS CONTENT • The Course Outline for Nursing 222 is on the nursing website as well as the NRS 222 Supplement. You will observe in the first Power Point presentation that there is a comprehensive review of Female/Fetal A&P and Reproduction.

  3. COURSE OUTLINE AND CLASS CONTENT • This content will not be in Quiz I but it is expected that you will answer the questions at the end of the review and be prepared to discuss your answers. This review will also be discussed on MERCER ONLINE with online students. • “Land” students will be meeting Monday mornings from 9AM-12PM for lecture. The classroom is LA 147. Please bring your clickers!

  4. NURSING 222 SUPPLEMENT MANUAL • The Nursing 222 supplement is on the website so you may download it’s contents. Please bring the supplement manual to lecture and clinical with you each week. We will be utilizing much of the material included in the manual.

  7. COMPUTER CLASSES • You will receive your clinical institution’s general electronic medical record training in the second five week session. • When you enter your OB clinical at UMCP or RWJ, you will be oriented to their individual form of electronic medical recording specific to the OB area.

  8. CLINICAL • Please read the chapters related to the first lecture before your clinical experience. • For students at RWJ, please meet your clinical instructor in the lobby closest to the Maternity pavilion (near the emergency department).

  9. CLINICAL • For students at UMCP, we will also meet in the lobby. • You will obtain an ID on the first day of clinical. • Please do not bring large books, backpacks, or valuables. There is not an area where these can be stored safely.

  10. CLINICAL • Refer to the Student Handbook as to what you are expected to bring to your clinical experience. • For those students at UMCP, I have sent an e-mail requesting your scrub size. I will need this information by August 30. For those at RWJ, scrubs will be given at clinical.

  11. CELL PHONE USE • PLEASE, CELL PHONES ARE NOT A PART OF YOUR CLINICAL EXPERIENCE! • IF YOU FIND YOU CANNOT BE WITHOUT YOUR PHONE FOR FOUR OR MORE HOURS YOU MAY WANT RETHINK WHETHER NURSING IS THE PROFESSION FOR YOU—BELIEVE ME, MOST OF THE TIME YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE TIME TO USE THEM AND MANY HOSPITALS BAN THEIR USE BY STAFF.

  12. CELL PHONE USE • THE INSTRUCTOR MAY ASK YOU TO LEAVE LECTURE OR CLINICAL IF CELL PHONE USE IS OBSERVED. An action plan may be initiated. • THIS MEANS THEY ARE NOT TO BE ON YOUR PERSON. Please refer to Page 18 of the Student Handbook.

  13. CELL PHONE USE • CELL PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN LECTURE. • THIS MEANS THEY ARE NOT ON YOUR DESK OR ON YOUR LAP BUT PUT AWAY AND OFF.
