  2. Monster Attack You are sitting on a rock in the desert of Arizona at noon eating your lunch.You heard something behind you so you turned and saw a gila monster coming out of its burrow. You got up and ran for your life!

  3. Home Sweet Home • Gila monsters have adapted to the Gila River. • They are native to the United States. • Gila monsters also live on mountains, and valleys in Arizona, Utah, and California. • When Gila monsters are active they spend 2 to 3 hours out of their burrow

  4. Dig In • Gila monsters gain nutrients in their tail as fat. • Gila monster eat bird eggs and catch small animals.

  5. Watch Out! • They have strong bites that cause pain, bleeding, and weakness. • Untreated bites are very painful and can kill a person. • In a fight they shove, push, and even bite. • A fight can last about 10 minutes or it can be hours.

  6. Falling In Love • In the spring males look for female mates. • The female only lays 3 or 2 eggs. • The eggs are soft and white. • The eggs are also 2 ½ inches long and 1 ¼ inches wide. • When eggs hatch the baby can hunt and protect themselves. • New born Gila monsters are 6 ½ inches long. • They also have venom right away. • If a male meetsa male they show of by doing push ups.
