  5. What does release mean in Jonas’s community? • It means death.

  6. For what job is Jonas selected? • Receiver of memory

  7. Why is Jonas chosen for this job? • He has the ability to see beyond. (he can see color.)

  8. Why has the community chosen to have one person hold all of their memories? • So only one person would have to bear the pain of the memories and everyone else would be blissfully ignorant

  9. How does Jonas react to the painful memories? • He wants to leave the community

  10. Why does Jonas take Gabriel with him when he decides to leave the community? • Gabe was going to be released the next day.
