  1. Enlightening thoughts about FETC from the deep sea of Mrs. J’s mind A reflexion on some of the sessions I attended.

  2. Session 1: Beyond Testing • Info is an explosion • The world is now in global competition • We have to prepare our students for jobs that don’t exist yet • Resource : www.peggyhealysterns.com/fetc2008

  3. Session Two: Games to Develop Content Knowledge • Critiea’s for a good game:How do you want the students to use the game? What is the objective you are trying to achieve? How experienced are your students in the content? • Good Games have:Clear PurposeMulti-model (uses all senses)FlexiblePositive FeedbackAppropriate Level of Challenge • Example of a good game ( www.dimenxionm.com ) • Example of good games: Savannah (Science), www.ferdig.coe.ufl.edu/gaming

  4. Session Three : Positive Teaching Using Technology in the Classroom • Call Home with positive notes • Remember you make math fun, not math • Use Ipods to make stations • If you get excited about something then the students will too. • Technology can make boring stuff fun.

  5. Session Four: Teaching English Learners • There are many varieties of Spanish • It is important to know what each student is capable of their own language before introducing a new language. • Google is a good free-translator • It’s important to teach students to learn how to research and search • Example: Solar system + Spanish • Resources: www.ncela.gwu.eduwww.colorincolorado.org

  6. Session Five: Digital Media for Bilingual and English Languages Learners • The learning process must contain both digital consuming and digital producing. • Publishing products increases the quality of the work • Most schools can work with the current technologies and current resources • Enable students to collaborate with a learning community of peers and educators • Resources: (Book) Access and Engagement

  7. Goals Achieved • Ideas for classroom • Learned about new technology • Reminded me of my passion for teaching • Learned a lot more about Angel • Got to know my partners at this school • Learned how we are using a lot of the state of the art technology at LWTHS already… go us! • Impressed by the number of teachers at conference • Overwhelmed by the venders and all their things they tried to sell and give a way… whoa.

  8. Disappointments • In some of the sessions, it felt like the leader was trying to sell his or her product instead of teaching the title of the session • Sometime the title of the session was misleading • In some of the sessions the presenter got way of task • I would have like longer sessions in order that we did not feel so rushed. Maybe a block schedule ha ha ha.

  9. Some of the ideas I came back with: • GPS the home cities of my native speakers and have them write a tour map of the city while showing the town through Google Earth • Have students write two sentences about a topic and then set it to a beat and make a rap… Spanish I • Ipod Spanish test for students who need to hear the test out loud while taking it • Communicating between my native speakers and my Spanish I class through angel.

  10. Thank you • This was an amazing opportunity and I am very glad and honored that I got to attend.
