  1. MEAN MEDIAN MODE RANGE JiEun Lee

  2. Objective TEK6th Grade, mathematics • (6.10)  Probability and statistics. The student uses statistical representations to analyze data. The student is expected to: (B)  identify mean (using concrete objects and pictorial models), median, mode, and range of a set of data

  3. RANGE6th Grade, mathematics What is the RANGE? The range of the data set is the difference between the largest and smallest number in the set.

  4. RANGE6th Grade, mathematics How to find the RANGE? To find the range, subtract the smallest number from the largest number in the set. For example: (1,3,2,4,5) In our sample data set the largest number is 5 and the smallest number is 1. 5-1= 4 The range of this set is 4.

  5. MEAN6th Grade, mathematics What is the MEAN? The mean of the data set is its average.

  6. MEAN6th Grade, mathematics How to find the MEAN? To find the mean, add up all the numbers and divide the answer by how many numbers you have. For example: (1,3,2,4,5) Add up all the numbers: 1+3+2+4+5=15 Divide the answer by how many number you have: we have 5 numbers, so, 15/5=3 The mean of this set is 3.

  7. MEDIAN6th Grade, mathematics What is the MEDIAN? The Median is the number which is in the exact middle of the data set.

  8. MEDIAN6th Grade, mathematics How to find the MEDIAN? To find the mean, list data set from smallest to largest. Then find number in the middle of the data. For example: (1,3,2,4,5) List data set from smallest to largest : (1,2,3,4,5) Find number in the middle of the data: 3 The median of this set is 3.

  9. MODE6th Grade, mathematics What is the MODE? The Mode is the number that appears the most often in your set of data.

  10. MODE6th Grade, mathematics How to find the MODE? To find the mode, list data set from smallest to largest. Then find the number that appears most often. For example: (1,3,2,4,3,5,3) List data set from smallest to largest : (1,2,3,3,3,4,5) Find number that appears most often in the data set: 3 The median of this set is 3.
