  2. Purpose of “Say No To GMO’s” • GMOs are genetically modified organisms formed through the gene splicing techniques of biotechnology. This untraditional technology merges DNA from different species, forming unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that don’t really occur in nature or in conventional crossbreeding. A increasing body of evidence connects GMOs with health problems, environmental damage and violation of farmers’ and consumers’ rights. Most industrial nations do not consider GMOs to be safe. In almost 50 countries around the world, with Australia, Japan, and all of the countries in the European Union, there are important limitations or outright bans on the creation and sale of GMOs. In the U.S., the government has permitted GMOs based on studies conducted by the same corporations that made them and profit from their sale. More and more, Americans are taking matters into their own hands and choosing to get out of the GMO experiment. “In the U.S., GMOs are in as much as 80% of conventional processed food. Over 80% of all GMOs grown worldwide are engineered for herbicide tolerance. As a result, use of toxic herbicides like Roundup has increased 15 times since GMOs were introduced.” GMO crops are also accountable for the surfacing of “super weeds” and “super bugs” which can only be killed with a huge amount of toxic poisons. GMOs are a straight addition of chemical agriculture, and are developed and sold by the world’s biggest chemical companies. The long-term impacts of GMOs are mysterious, and once released into the environment these organisms cannot be recalled. “ The Say No To GMOs! site offers extensive information on the complex and controversial issue of genetic engineering. The comprehensive collection of documentation spanning over a decade offers a unique opportunity for research that is not found in one place anywhere else online. After over 10 years of providing news and information to the public, we have decided to stop updating the site. It will remain archived in its present state for many years to come.”
