  • 2001 Multi-Jurisdictional Solid Waste Task Group formed for long-term solid waste and recycling program & facility planning

  • Representatives from all jurisdictions and special districts

  • Most communities in the County have reached 50% but want to do more

    • Expansion of existing residential, commercial, and school recycling

    • C&D recycling expansion

    • Evaluation of a dirty MRF

    • Evaluation of conversion technologies

    • Construction and demolition debris processing

    • Agricultural film processing

    • Compost or mulch processing

    • Other opportunities that arise

    • 171 strawberry growers alone

  • Historically relied on foreign markets

  • Current domestic interest in agricultural film

  • Santa Maria Valley identified as strategic location by industry

    • City of Santa Maria is committed to revising Landfill SWFP allowing on-site facility
