  1. The Teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and of the New Testament By: Brandon Weaver

  2. Teachings of the Bhagavad Gita • Inner Peace • Compassion • Love • Soul is not the body • Action through detachment • Self control • Renunciation of worldly pleasures

  3. Teachings of Jesus • Forgiveness, “turning the other cheek” • Giving away earthly possessions • Compassion • Love • Soul is not the body

  4. How are they Similar??? • Both teach that the soul and the body are not one. When Krishna tells Arjuna that he is not killing their soul, just their bodies, and when Jesus is preaching about how to serve the lord. • They both teach compassion, while Krishna teaches dealing with things in a compassionate way, until you fail, Jesus teaches people to be always compassionate. • They also both teach about love, in which you are to love the person eternally, even though you may not like them, like how Arjuna does not like his cousins, he still loves him.

  5. How are they Different??? • The Bhagavad Gita teaches that action with detachment, like in the friend analogy that we did in class, Jesus teaches that you should always keep trying to help your friends, and that there should never be a point were you detach yourself from the situation. • The Bhagavad Gita teaches about mediation and inner peace to achieve Moksha, while Jesus teaches that having faith and doing good deeds gets you into heaven • The teachings of Jesus states that renunciation of worldly objects is achieved through giving away your possessions, while the Bhagavad Gita says that renunciation is achieved when you feel no connection between you and an object, that you view all things the same, such as dirt and gold.
