  2. Definition of CLT • The communicative language teaching approach focuses on having students engage in real-life communication in the target language.  The teacher sets a situation that students are likely to encounter in their daily lives.  This creates motivation for students to learn from their desire to communicate in significant ways about meaningful topics.  Language is interactive, engaging, and has a clear relationship with society.  The communicative language teaching approach places great emphasis on listening; however, students do most of the speaking.
