With huge middle class and lower class population, India is promoting poor hygiene practices each and every day. Most affected are the girls and women in underserved communities, as reported by the studies conducted by various women and child rights NGOs in India. One of the most viable solutions offered is girl child education in these communities that will help in reducing the impact of poor sanitation.<br><br>What is being taught is being learnt, what is being presented is assimilated. Today, what girls should be taught and the level to which they can be educated remain a concern in lower class and middle class families. Education is essentially about learning which places the learner at the centre of the process. By education here, I also mean educating girls about health and sanitation practices.<br>

Lack of sanitation for girl child Lack of sanitation practices put children at risk of diseases. Poor drinking water, schools and places without toilets, lack of maintenance and lack of awareness ruins the life and health of people. If I specifically talk about women who live in marginalized areas; their health condition is very poor and even declining day by day. There are many women and child rights NGOs in India working to address the issue, but the work done is offset by an ever increasing population in the country. Currently more than 2.5 billion people live with poor sanitation practices, most of them living in rural areas. Most women live without access to basic sanitation. Child rights NGOs in India work towards the issue In 2010 the UN made access to water and sanitation basic human rights but still over 2 billion people do not have access. Poor menstrual hygiene can cause infection in private area which cause itching and also infertility. Only 20-25% women use sanitary pads and over 75% women search alternatives such as cloths husk and ashes which leads to severe reproductive health problem. If we talk about high school the ratio of girls with respect to boys is a staggering 1:4 and most of the blame is often been strapped on the back of sanitation. All of this points to the impact of poor sanitation on girl child education in the country. Supporting women and child rights NGOs in India But as time passes on the situation on these seem to improve as more and more organizations seem to join UN & WHO to spread awareness on this topic. Most recently Miss India & Miss World who happen to be the same Ms. Manushi Chillar has spent most of the year 2017 and 2018 promoting women’s sanitation and have received substantial backing from WHO(World Health Organization). Many celebrity faces including actress Angelina Jolie and to some extent Her Highness Duchess of Sussex have made financial donations to support this cause through women and child rights NGOs in India.
