BRIEF INTRODUCTION • Born on June, 19 1880 in Ohio • In 1904 moved to Massachusetts and started his career • Has strong passion on making books. • Disliked European typefaces such as Futura and Kabel. • Designed various kinds of types that were widely used • In the year 1922 he came up wit the term of “graphic design” because of his process of book-making. (Combining design, illustrations and typesetting together)

  4. 1905~1916: being a commercial artist. • 1917~1918: being the director of Harvard University Press • 1922: the first person who used the term “graphic design” • 1928: produces his first linotype • 1929: He was awarded a gold metal by AIGA ( American Institute of Graphic Design).
