  1. Project Search Open House December 12, 2012

  2. What is Project Search? • Project Search is a partnership between business, education, vocational rehabilitation, and long term support agencies. • Goal: To provide on-site internship experiences for young men and young women with disabilities leading to competitive employment in the workplace.

  3. Provides variety of internships that teach core skills of the business and a liaison to coordinate the program. Provides a job coach, Saree Leimsieder, Supervisor Jeremy Tuss, and Job Developer Brad Doane who coordinate assistance to team members for job coaching and competitive job placement in the community. Provides individualized career counseling and guidance for eligible student participants. Vocational planning/support may include job coaching and placement. Rehab services commission counselors are Fred Collins and Beth Kimball. Provides an instructor, Sharon Koehler, and recruits appropriate student participants through either a local education agency and/or a Career Technical school district.

  4. Project Search’s Partners (cont’d) • Lake County Board of DD/Deepwood: This provides long-term retention and follow along for eligible individuals who receive a competitve job at the host business or in the community.

  5. Where Will the Project Search Interns work? The interns will work at different jobs at LCBDD/Deepwood based on their skills, career goals, and interests. For example: Haley likes clerical work and can use Microsoft Windows. Haley’s internships will focus on clerical jobs at the A bldg., VGC and perhaps a community company. Mindy and Kaelee have been working in Food Service, learning food preparation and serving skills for VGC (Vocational Guidance Center), ARC (Adult Residential Center), and JCDC (Jacklitz Continuing Development Center).

  6. Goals of the Internships • The goal of the internship is to teach the students how to be good employees. • In the beginning, they will need time and patience as they learn the new tasks. • By the end of the 10-week internship, they should complete all job tasks just like any employee. • Students wear a uniform and will comply with department rules and regulations.

  7. Job Skill Development • The interns will look towards the teacher and the Job Coach first for direction. • As they learn the job, they will go directly to their natural support and/or supervisor (boss) at their internship.

  8. What Should I Expect from a Project Search Intern? • The goal of the internship is to teach the student good work skills, attitudes, and ethics. All peers and managers will expect quality work and positive interactions with the interns.

  9. Who Do I Contact to learn more about Project Search? • If you would like to learn more about the work of an intern, talk to the Job Coach Saree Leimsieder or Teacher Sharon Koehler. • If you would like to learn more about LCBDD’s involvement with Project Search, contact Lynnmarie Landwei-Phillips, Business Liaison.

  10. Where do the students go each day? • The Project Search Students will be dropped off by their parents or Laketran at their jobsites. • Schedule: • 8:00: Staff Meeting—Employability Skills • 9:00: Worksites (Broadmoor School and Willoughby Workshop) • 11:30: Lunch • 12:00: Worksites • 2:00-2:30: Review, Plan, and Communication

  11. Starting with the 2012-2013 School Year, LCBDD/Deepwood will be the host business for 6 students from Lake County. Throughout the year, they will work as interns in a variety of jobs. Saree Leimsieder, Job Coach from UCP of Greater Cleveland, and Sharon Koehler, a teacher through the Lake County Education Service Center, will teach them job skills, travel training, and work adjustment skills needed for successful employment after graduation. The classroom for Project Search is in A Building; however, the students travel to VGC, JCDC, and ARC, depending on their work assignments.

  12. What Happens after Interns graduate from Project Search? • Project Search is a stand-alone program that involves 5 different agencies. • As the goal is community employment, RSC and UCP will coordinate job coaching and job placement. • Once the students have been placed and are successful at their jobs, CES may provide follow-along services to ensure job retention.

  13. Conclusion • Thank you all for attending our Project Search open house. We hope you learned about all of the wonderful new skills that we have learned, we are learning, and we will continue to learn while being a part of Project Search!
