Occupied Japan • March 18-19, 2014 • Objective: Students will examine the occupation of American forces in Japan following WW2 and the intent behind the occupation’s reforms through texts, graphic organizer and written response. • Warm-Up: “Africa, Asia and Australia” Read ‘Rise of Modern Japan’ p. 490. Answer the ‘SUMMARIZE’ question in 3-4 sentences in your notebook .

  2. Write this question in your notebook: “Why do you think the United States took a unilateral approach to international relations at the end of World War One yet a multilateral approach at the end of World War Two?”

  4. What is occupation? During an occupation, the occupying forces are responsible for governing the territory, aiding in disarmament and, sometimes, helping to rebuild after war. Write the following in your notebook: 1. “What was the goal of the U.S. occupation of Japan?” 2. “Why did General MacArthur choose not to prosecute Emperor Hirohito for war crimes?”
