GOSPEL GRACE 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 “8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. Ministry Motivated by Grace 2 Corinthians 3: 6 “6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” Christian ministry is practiced after the resurrection of Jesus and therefore the focus is on new creation. Conversion occurs through death, burial and resurrection. Repentance occurs by death, burial, and resurrection. We remember the cross in worship and the Lord’s Supper.

  24. Ministry Motivated by Grace We carry our cross daily as we follow Christ. But we live in a state of resurrection not death or burial. We experience our moments of burial or wilderness when God is silent and we are confused. But our hope is in the new day, the resurrected life, the new potential and eternal destiny. We live the Christian life is a state of gratitude for deliverance from the death and burial as new possibilities are available.

  25. Grace and Truth John 1:17 “17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” God’s righteousness and his graciousness is always in dialectic. Dialectic means both are true at the same time, “both/and” not “either/or.” God is faithful to not judge without mercy. God’s grace and truth are always in tension so we do not get what we deserve but better than we deserve.

  26. Grace and Truth Grace is a difficult concept if we are black and white thinkers. God is not either truthful or graceful but rather simultaneously both at the same time. Because of God’s grace we are sinners and saints at the same time. The truth is that we are sinners but also due to his grace we are saved.

Law and Grace Romans 7:4-6 “4 My brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. 5 When we were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death. 6 By dying to what once bound us, are released from the law so we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.”

No Condemnation Romans 8:1-4 “1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

Continually Cleansed 1 John 1:7 “7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” God knows we are going to keep sinning as Christians so he planned on our continual cleansing. Christians are constantly cleansed of sin by the blood of Jesus by walking in light or living as disciples walking in the footsteps of Christ.

  30. Continually Cleansed Grace purifies us if we are turned to the light meaning our sins are not hidden. God knows we are not perfect so he forgives constantly by us being headed in the righteous direction, looking to light. Forgiveness is as simple as looking to the light! Grace due to Gaze! Gaze into Glory and receive Grace!

Motivated by Grace Titus 2:11-13 “11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself to redeem us from wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his, eager for good.”

  32. All Ministry Redemptive 2 Corinthians 2:6-8 “6 The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient. 7 Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him.” Ministry is not to condemn but to save. No one should feel hopeless. Church discipline is to redeem and not to merely purge.

  33. Healthy Ministry is Gracious • Positive Regard – Love One Another, Romans 12:9“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.” • Safety & Security – Honor One Another, Romans 12:10 “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” • Vision – Inspire One Another, Romans 12:11 “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”

Healthy Ministry is Gracious • Patient – Compassionate with One Another, Romans 12:12 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” • Autonomy – Respect One Another, Romans 12:13 “Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” • Non-judgmental – Bless One Another, Romans 12:14“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.”

Healthy Ministry is Gracious • Empathy – Sensitive to One Another, Romans 12:15 “Rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn.” • Validate – Encourage One Another, Romans 12:16“Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.”

  36. Healthy Ministry is Gracious • Merciful – Gracious with One Another, Romans 12:17 “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.” • Unity – United with One Another, Romans 12:18 “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

Healthy Ministry is Gracious • Accept – Forgive One Another, Romans 12:19 “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.” • Help – Serve One Another, Romans 12:20 “On the contrary: ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.’”

  38. Healthy Ministry is Gracious • Trust – Faithful to One Another, Romans 12:21 “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” • Healthy vs. Unhealthy– The One Another Way does not include judgmental thoughts, dismissive of opinions, a critical spirit, harsh words, unloving acts, unrealistic expectations, etc.
