  6. What is an eLearning plan? • A complete document that supports the annual School Implementation Plan (AIP) which stems from School Strategic Plan (SSP). You should choose to create one because: • ICT is a large financial investment • eLearning can be a catalyst for School Transformation • ICT is part of 21st Century Learning

Goals of an eLearning Plan • Reduce planning time and effort • Increase eLearning effectiveness through targeted improvement • Guide and support innovative and transformative use of eLearning • Integrate eLearning into School Strategic Planning documentation • Develop a plan that supports School and system-wide initiatives and funding submissions.

  8. A good eLearning Plan should reach across all areas of the effective schools model

  9. eLearning leadership enables an eLearning culture through a clear sense of purpose. ICT enables diverse learning environments conducive to quality learning & teaching. ICT is used strategically to enhance learning and teaching and is supported by effective professional learning. The use of ICT enable Learning Communities to work collaboratively to enhance learning and teaching within and beyond the school. ICT is used to contextualise teaching to meet the needs of individual learners Effective Schools demonstrate a clear and shared understanding of learning as part of their ICT vision and goals. ICT systems support accountability measures across the school that are accessible to the school community. ICT supports schools and teachers in their endeavour to ensure every learner is successful.

Planning Process • Review or create an elearning vision • Plot your school on the elearning matrix(more later) • Identify your current practice • Identify your target practice • Develop strategies, timing, resources and monitoring • Identify required IT Infrastructure to support • Implement and review and evaluate plan The Department have provided many resources to help you through this..and Ultranet coaches are there to support schools

  15. eLearning Leadership: coordinating the work of the eLearning and literacy committees in the school to run an innovative project Student eLearning Capability: finding out students’ current access to personal technology to use in the project Teaching, Learning, Curriculum and Assessment: designing a five-level online reading comprehension project for all classes ICT Professional Learning: developing teacher skills to use the software and online tools as part of the reading project eLearning Vision: Creating highly literate students by using ICT to structure, implement and monitor reading comprehension activities Learning Places and Spaces: establishing a computer based ‘listen and talk’ space able to be accessed by every class for the project Learning Communities: setting up a ‘presentation’ space and end-of-term times for parents to view their child’s completed project IT Infrastructure and Technical Support: ensuring each ‘listen and talk’ space has access to headsets, microphones and working sound cards Review and Management: testing reading comprehension scores

Creating an eLearning Vision Your school’s overall vision should form the cornerstone of your eLearning PlanThe vision should have a shared understanding in your school Key Questions • Why do you need an eLearning vision? • What makes a vision “shared”? • What role will eLearning take in your school?

  17. Notes on eLearning Vision • Your eLearning vision must emanate from your Strategic Plan. Review your School Profile and Values from your Strategic Plan to help form a basis. • Ensure that your eLearning vision is a clear and succinct statement that is easily understood. • Ideally it needs to be shared and owned by all of the members of your School Community, including teachers, students and parents

Some guiding questions for creating an eLearning Vision • How will learning and teaching have changed and how will ICT support this change? • What type of learning environment would you see? • How will learning take place? • What will your students expectations of learning be? • What will each student know, value and be able to do when they leave your school?

Implement, review and evaluate - plan you target practise • Find an established, conceptual framework that clearly addresses effective learning for school planning • Create an eLearning ‘overlay’ to guide the use of ICT in an effective schools framework • Develop a Professional Learning Strategy that supports the framework

  27. The Role of Leadership in effective eLearning planning

Role of eLearning Leadership • School leaders routinely plan at the school level for ongoing improvement of student learning outcomes enabled by ICT • eLearning Leadership refers to the ways in which Leadership guides and supports all aspects of eLearning implementation and management in Schools, ensuring it supports the eLearning Vision and is aligned with the School’s Strategic focus.

  29. eLearning Leadership is important – you are seen as leaders in your school in this area Today’s school leaders need to be tech savvy. Only those leaders who are informed, discriminating, creative and transformative will be successful in achieving systemic change in their learning organisation.

Learning and Teaching • Students engaged in rigorous and stimulating programs of learning that meet their individual needs and prepare them for success in the 21st Century • Students and teachers are able to innovate in their use of ICT to achieve student learning outcomes • How is ICT used to transform learning and teaching, extend learning opportunities and improve learning outcomes?

  32. Student ICT Capability Student ICT Capability refers to how the School develops, measures and monitors students ICT Capabilities and recognises the level of engagement and skill, to inform curriculum planning.

ICT Professional Learning ICT Professional Learning refers to how the School plans, implements and supports ICT professional learning to increase teacher’s confidence and capabilities in integrating ICT for improved learning and teaching. There is a strong role here for the PD coordinator and Ultranet Coach

  34. Learning Places and Spaces • Teaching and learning and resources are available anywhere, anytime. • How does your school plan for and provide infrastructure and different learning spaces to maximise learning opportunities?

  35. Learning Places and Spaces …cont Learning Places and Spaces refers to the Schools approach to the design and management of learning places, spaces and resources using ICT to improve learning programs.

  36. IT Infrastructure and Technical Support A well managed and maintained school IT infrastructure is essential to support successful eLearning however ICT infrastructure and technical support underpins a school’s vision, it is not meant to drive it.

Infrastructure…continued • ICT infrastructure can be seen in terms of supporting your eLearning Plan • Existing infrastructure needs to be either maintained, replaced, rolled over or decommissioned • Integrating new and old infrastructure may require an IT Audit..there are department tools to help with this

Learning Communities • Students and teachers routinely collaborate, build and share knowledge using digital technologies – blogs, file sharing, social networking, video conferencing etc • Parents able to view student programs and progress at any time online and communicate with teachers and school leaders. • How are you using ICT to extend learning beyond the school making connections with local and global communities?
