  1. FSA Parent Night Orlando Gifted Academy February 26, 2019

  2. FSA 2019 What FSA tests are administered?

  3. FSA 2019 How long are the tests? • FSA Writing – 120 minutes • FSA Reading – 2 sessions at 80 minutes each • FSA Math – 2 sessions at 80 minutes each • NGSSS Science – 2 sessions at 80 minutes each

  4. Third Grade • In 2002 the Florida Legislature passed a law that identifies specific requirements for promotion from third grade to fourth grade. • Situation involving students who did not receive passing FSA scores led to changes in the way OCPS utilizes the third grade portfolio. • The portfolio are reading passages and align to 3rd grade ELA standards.

  5. FSA 2019 Can my student practice taking the test? • Practice tests are available in the FSA Portal for students to practice on their own for familiarizing with test content. • https://fsassessments.org/students-and-families/practice-tests/paper-based-materials/paper-based-practice-test-materials.stml

  6. FSA 2019 All assessments are administered PBT (Paper-Based Testing) through 5th Grade.

  7. FSA 2019 • “Because the content in all statewide assessments is secure, you may not reveal details about the writing prompt or passages to anyone. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, or posting online, for example, on websites like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.”

  8. FSA 2019 Can I ask my student about the test after he or she has finished? • We encourage parents and families to ask how their child’s day went and continue to promote student success by offering positive support and feedback. Because the content of statewide assessments is secure, students are asked not to talk about the test questions, passages, or their responses. • While students may not share information about secure test content after testing, this policy is not intended to prevent students from discussing their testing experiences with their parents and families.

  9. FSA 2019 Electronic Devices—Students are not permitted to have any electronic devices, including but not limited to cell phones and smartphones, at any time during testing OR during breaks (e.g., restroom), even if they are turned off or students do not use them. If your student is found with an electronic device, his or her test will be invalidated. The best practice is for students to leave devices at home or in their lockers on the day of testing.

  10. FSA 2019 Test Invalidations—Students are responsible for working on their own during the test and for protecting their answers from being seen by others. If students are caught cheating during testing, their tests will be invalidated. FDOE employs a test security company, Caveon Test Security, to analyze student test results to detect unusually similar answer patterns. Student results within a school that are found to have extremely similar answer patterns will be invalidated.

  11. FSA 2019 Leaving Campus—If your student begins a test session and leaves campus before completing it (for lunch, an appointment, or illness, etc.), he or she WILL NOT be allowed to complete that test session. If your student does not feel well on the day of testing, it may be best for him or her to wait and be tested on a make-up day. Please remember not to schedule appointments on testing days.

  12. FSA 2019 How will I know how my student performed on the assessment? Requirements are that assessment results be made available no later than June 30, except for the results for Grade 3 ELA, which must be available by May 31st.
