  1. Talent 21 project for art By Scott Giberson

  2. I made my pot by First I got some clay from the bin and went to the wedging table and used the palms of my hands to flatten it out and used the metal wire to cut my clay and half to check for air pockets. It had air pockets and so I went on working on wedging and no air pockets this time. After that I got a clay knife and sick and carved out a circular base . Next I used the stick to score the clay and the I got some more clay to make the base. When that was done I used some of the slip to make it stay together. Next I scored some more and laid the scored clay strips on top of the circular base and that made half of my pot. The next day I got some more clay and wedged it with no air pockets did all of the scoring and brushed on the slip. When that was done I got another type of stick and smoothed it. Then I got a sponge and smoothed it some more and them I put my design on the pot and then I put 3 coats of glaze on the sides and inside except for the bottom. Once it was fired in the kiln my pot was all done.

  3. Wedging When you are wedging you need to use the metal wire to slice it in half and if you see little holes you need to do it again. When you don’t see the air pockets anymore your good to go.

  4. Glazing When you are glazing you glaze the whole pot but the bottom. You glaze all around inside and out. When one coat of glaze is dry you need to put on 2 more coats for a total of 3 coats of glaze. It will be fired in the kiln and you have a nice smooth pot with the color you chose.

  5. Cutting When you cutting you need to get a clay knife and get a piece of already wedged clay and flatten it out to make of base. Cut around in a circle for how big you want the base and take off the clay you cut around.

  6. Coils You use the a flat surface like a wedging board and use the palms of your hands and wedge until its done and rolled out wedge on top of each other.

  7. Importance of water We have water all around us and we need to use it correctly. Some people have water but its not clean. Water also makes up of two thirds of our body and we need it to survive. Not just humans need it to live all living things need water. Without water we wouldn’t survive and it takes up 70 percent of earth. Water is the source of what formed earth. Water come out as rain to give the plants ,trees, and animals the water they need. Without water we wouldn’t have the oceans, lakes, rivers, and canals that we have today. Without water we wouldn’t have all the important water sources we have today 2012. Water is important and we need to conserve it and use water so there is water to share with other families in need.

  8. When you make the pot You need to wedge the clay and make sure that there is not air pockets in the clay. Keep wedging the clay until you have the clay with no air pockets for the air to come through. Once that’s done you need to make the base of your pot to a nice circle by using the knife for clay. Next you get some more clay to make the round base. But before you do anything else you must use a scoring stick for the base wedged clay. When that’s done you need to get slip and brush it over the scored clay. When the slip dries get a sponge and smooth inside and the outside. Keep stacking and when that’s finished it will be fired and then you can put glaze on.

  9. Putting your pot in the kiln When you are going to put your pot in the kiln you have to make sure that you don’t put glaze on the bottom of your pot. If you do it will stick to it and it will get broken when trying to get it unstuck. The kiln gets up to 2000 degrees. It gets that hot so it will harden the correct way. When there are air pockets in your pot it will explode in the kiln if its not done correctly.
