NTEC@ Northland Secondary College • College has a school based Industry community partnership model known as the Ntec Model based on a Reference Group made up of local industry, local & state govt, TAFEs, Unions, Community, ACC, group trainers, peak bodies and other representatives which provides research and information on regional training needs and oversees a business plan for the running of Ntec. It also has a Project Development Manager who implements the business plan and develops partnerships. • Ntec is a $4 million technology & manufacturing facility at Northland SC. The college is an RTO for 20 Cert II-IV programs and a regional VET provider with 400 external VET students from 39 government & non government schools attending the college in 2009. At Ntec we currently run Cert II programs in Engineering, Automotive, Furnishing, Electro-technology, Horticulture, Building & Construction and Manufacturing. • The Ntec model was used as a basis for the ATCs but without its inclusiveness.

PARTNERSHIPS • Ntec was and continues to be a conscious and planned response to our regional reality i.e. youth unemployment, limited curriculum options and significant skill shortages that impact negatively on our regional economy and community. • Linkages and Partnerships are central to Ntec. • They are not only about arranging study or employment pathways, they are also about ensuring that what we do at Ntec is responsive to: • Regional economic development • Local industry and employment • Local community interests • The individual needs and interests of young people in the region • Linkages and Partnerships and the notion that Ntec is a facility and program shared with local colleges, community and industry are central to the educational paradigm at Northland Secondary College.

APPLICATION PROCESS FOR TTC • identification of Regional Skill Shortages & Training Needs • Response to regional training needs/skills shortages to be addressed by the TTC identified by our partners & DETERMINED by Reference Group. Current Ntec facility inadequate to deal with needs. • Areas based on research & statistics • Identified Engineering (Fabricator trade) Building & Construction Electro-technology Automotive Transport & Logistics

  7. APPLICATION PROCESS FOR TTC 2. Talked to schools & got agreement from them to join cluster 3. Spoke to Northern region DEECD and got approval for Expression of interest 4. Put in Expression of Interest in for Phase 1 Round 1 5. Started getting letters of support from all parties including industry, community organisations, council, local MPs etc. 6. Got architect to draw up detailed plans and costings

APPLICATION PROCESS FOR TTC FOR PHASE TWO OF ROUND 1 • Confirmed with the Ntec Reference Group the regional skill shortage areas, qualifications to be offered and partner/consortium organisations. • Received support from the Northern Region DEECD with the application. • Got support letters from the DEECD and the Association of Independent Schools of Victoria for each of the two Independent schools in our cluster of nine schools. • Met with the cluster schools, the INLLEN, Ntec Reference Group Executive members and Northern Region DEECD personnel and drew up a formal MOU outlining lead and cluster schools responsibilities and commitment. • Continued to get letters of support from our industry partners and add them to the ones we already had. Letters detailed commitments from the partners which included everything from SWPL placements to over $250,000 worth of equipment. • Confirmed costings, completed the PIP and submitted the application with all the required attachments for TTC funding.
