Past Improvements to CCC Major -- Funded through Special Articles, voted on at Town Meetings: • New roof (2008) • Structural and masonry repairs to stabilize building (2009) • Replacement of underground oil tanks (2011) • Full renovation of four (4) public bathrooms (2016) Minor -- Funded through both operating and capital budgets: • Ongoing painting, wall and floor repairs, new carpeting where needed, water coolers, signage, AC in select areas, parking lot paving
Facts about Caryl Community Center • Board of Selectmen have statutory responsibility to maintain all Town-owned buildings • 41,000 sq ft (30,000 sq ft of usable space excluding hallways, stairways, bathrooms, mechanical spaces) • Home to two Town Departments – Council on Aging and Parks ‘n Rec • Currently, four additional licensees: Center for the Development of Children, since 2002 (5928 sq ft); Erin’s School of Dance, since 2003 (2040 sq ft); Parent Talk, since 2003 (1800 sq ft); Community Cycle, since 2017 (1104 sq ft)
Boilers are over 90 years old! • We must provide a reliable, efficient, and cost saving heat source • This boiler replacement has been on the long-range capital budget planning list since 2013 • Current boilers have lasted more-than-twice their projected lifespan • They break down frequently and replacement parts are no longer available
Cost • $600,000 • Free Cash provides Town with means for small capital projects without borrowing, e.g. last year’s AC at Chickering School, the bathrooms at CCC, fire truck, etc.
