    2. Guild CPO History - An Overview - Color Guild was founded in 1955 to focus on a common color system for several regional paint manufacturers. Guild CPO Inc., was founded and incorporated by Color Guild in 1988 to focus on purchasing raw materials. In 1997 Color Expressions and Trendition House, two other North American buying groups merged and formed the Colorizer group. Colorizer had both the Color Expressions and the Trendition house color systems, but they combined purchasing power for buying raw materials.

    3. Guild CPO History - An Overview - In January of 1999 Color Guild and Colorizer joined forces to create a larger buying cooperative for raw materials while still keeping their individual color systems separate. Color Guild’s and Colorizer’s primary focus was the merchandising and marketing of paint so Guild CPO was spun out to focus on raw material purchasing for the entire group. When the merger took place, Guild CPO had several members that were not part of either color system and were members simply to buy raw materials. Today we have expanded that portion of the membership dramatically. Guild CPO was formed to focus on the procurement of raw materials and services only. Guild CPO does not focus on marketing, merchandising or technical issues.

    5. The Guild CPO Mission Statement Guild CPO is an international organization of paint, coatings and related manufacturers organized to provide cooperative purchasing services for its member companies which will improve their profitability. Optimize purchasing opportunities for our members by developing approved supplier programs. Effectively maintain communication and information systems for member companies and approved suppliers. Expand our membership globally

    6. The Guild CPO Today A global non-profit buying cooperative comprised of members located in 10 different countries. Our members are represented in the following industries: architectural coatings, industrial coatings, powder coatings, caulks & sealants, adhesives, specialty coatings, lumber marking paint, OEM and raw material suppliers. Our members consolidated raw material volume ranks CPO as one of the largest coatings raw material purchasers globally. The premise of Guild CPO, though not a requirement, is that our members and approved suppliers support one another through trading relationships and networking. Our headquarters are located in Cleveland Ohio.

    8. Future Expansion There are two logical ways for Guild CPO to expand: Global Expansion through regional markets. Expansion into new industry segments.

    9. Global Expansion Because of our history most Guild CPO members are located in North America. If we look at the global coatings industry it can be broken into the following regional segments: North America, Latin America, Europe including the Middle East and South East Asia. Guild CPO is currently looking at several options to expand in Europe to create regional programs that enhance our current global programs. This global expansion would enable members a more complete product portfolio and further cost reductions.

    10. Industry Segment Expansion Like most other industries, the demographics in the coatings industry reveal a few large dominate players and multitude of small to medium size companies that are niche players. The following industries with similar demographics are of major interest to Guild CPO: Industrial Coatings, Powder, OEM, Caulk, Adhesives, Construction Materials, Inks, Plastics, Rubber, Wire, Cable & Cosmetics. Of the raw materials used in each of these industries there is a 65% - 75% overlap to the coatings industry. Guild CPO will continue to add new members from industry segments with common raw materials.
