  1. The Nervous System Jordan Dwyer, Lydia Luther, Joe Romano

  2. The organs of the Nervous system The three main organs are: -The Brain -The spinal cord -Peripheral Nerve

  3. Functions of the Nervous System • The basic signaling unit of the nervous system is the neuron • Neurons are found in the brain, spinal cord, and sensory organs • The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord

  4. The Human Brain • I am the brain • The brain sends blood through all the organs to keep them running • The brains job in the Nervous system is to control the body and to send messages to the whole system • The most common disease of the brain is alzhmers -The right side of the brain controls the left side of your body, and the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body-

  5. Cool Facts on the Brain • Our skin weighs about two times as much as the brain • The human brain is the fattest organ in the body, carrying about 60% of fat. • The brain takes the longest of any organ to develop and goes through more changes than any other organ.

  6. The Spinal Cord The main function of the spinal cord is to send messages to and from the brain The most common disease for the spinal cord is Spina bifida Without the spinal cord you wouldn’t be able to see, taste, feel, smell or hear. -The adult spinal cord is about 18 inches long

  7. Cool Facts about the Spinal cord • The spinal cord runs down the back of medulla oblongata, at the base of the brain • How thick is the spinal cord ? It is as thick as a man’s little finger • If you were to pop your spinal cord, you would get taller

  8. The Peripheral Nerve • It connects through the central nervous system and to the limbs and organs • The most common disease is the carpal tunnel disease • It sends messages to the brain from the organ
