  1. Project: IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: Preliminary Comment on Nortel and UK documents from 802.18 Date Submitted: 12 November 2003 Source: Tim Wakeley, et al Company: Hewlett Packard Re:IEEE 802.18-03-0049-00-0000, IEEE 802.18-03-0046-00-0000 Abstract: Preliminary Comment on Nortel and UK documents from 802.18 Purpose: Status report Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). 2. Comments on Nortel Document • Document Abstract • Suggests that FCC UWB regulations be modified to protect 802.11 devices • 802.15.3a Initial Comments • 802.11 and 802.15 are both part 15 devices • IEEE should not ask FCC for special protection for some classes of unlicensed devices • We agree with FCC rules and should allow the IEEE to develop proper coexistence rules between its standards through 802.19 • 802.15.3a is aware of other licensed and unlicensed services and is designing for coexistence and interference mitigation • We do not want to restrict future UWB applications

  3. Comment on UK Compatibility Study • Abstract • Proposes stricter UWB OOB mask • 802.15.3a Initial Comments • Is not a realistic mask because it rolls off to minus infinity • 802.15.3a would like to study source material and open dialog with UK RA before final comment • It suggests that part 15 rules in general do not provide enough protection for some services below 900MHz

  4. Back Up – UK Material

  5. Proposed CEPT emissions limits for indoor and outdoor UWB communication and measurement systems.

  6. CEPT compatibility study in progress PT SE24 -provisional results this includes aggregate interference analysis for a no.of devices
