The evolution of the atmosphere The envelope of gases the surrounds the Earth, know as the atmosphere was not always like it is today. *Prior to our modern atmosphere, the first atmosphere is believed to consisted of mostly hydrogen and helium. * After the development of the first atmosphere, two other atmospheres were believed to have evolved.

  4. The evolution of the atmosphere There are many theories surrounding the development of our atmosphere, however many believe that our atmosphere was created due to volcanic out gassing. * Volcanic Out gassing: the outpouring of gasses from the earth’s interior and put into the atmosphere.
