  3. IEEE 802.3 Standards

  4. Final Gantt Chart

  5. Division of Labor

  6. Board Design • TX Schematic

  7. Board Design • RX Schematic

  8. Bill of Materials (BOM) * two Tx/Rx can be fabricated on one PCB board, prices based on 10,000 order aside from Maxim chips

  9. Gigabit Ethernet – Loop Back Test • Completed aggressive TxRx by adding SMA connectors • Test setup using XYZ stage • Note excessive fiber length due to VCSEL output

  10. Gigabit Ethernet – Loop Back Test • Looped Tx output into PD on aggressive Rx • 0dB attenuation • Stylish Goggles!

  11. Gigabit Ethernet – Loop Back Test • Scope set to 1 second persistence • 0db attenuation • 2db attenuation

  12. Gigabit Ethernet – Loop Back BER Test • 4db Attenuation BER of 0.2x10-10 • Signal lost at 5dB Attenuation • 0-3dB Attenuation BER of 0.0x10-10 (1 minute)

  15. Conclusion (cont’d) • Though Gbps Ethernet is important, that was not the core concept taught in the class (surprise?). • Learned how actual engineering works and for some it was a first taste in actual hands on experience in professional practice. • Even though this course was not lecture intensive, it is possibly one of the more important classes in ECE… We now understand why.

  16. Graduation (Party) Coming Soon…
