What the Section Does • Develop and manage applications and systems that support MSOD’s functions for: • Implementation / Compliance • Warranty, IUVP • Vehicle Certification • CertOnLine, ECert, Aftermarket • Vehicle Testing and Laboratory Data Support • CIC, VEDS, METS • Provide access to databases developed for these systems. • Warranty, IUVP, ECERT, VEDS, VTS, METSPROD

4. Application Development Process • What are the business requirements? • Review the existing business process. Find out what the section does and how it does it. • Determine how staff receives data - create data flow diagram. • Determine how the data processed - What business rules are applied to the data e.g. emissions > California standard • Find out if staff or manufacturers need to be notified when a process is complete. • Determine reports or end products that need to be generated.

Application Development Process (-cont-) • What are the data requirements? • Document the information that is being submitted. • Determine if any of the fields are required and if any are optional. • Find out if there is any confidential data? ~ security • Document the field types. If it is a character or numeric field. • Design and develop the database.

Application Development Process (-cont-) • Coding Process • Decide on Windows or Web application • Programming language C# • Oracle database ~ store data • Use procedures and packages to get, save and manipulate data on the database. • Testing the application. – internal and external users, developing users guide based on need • Deploy application.

7. Application Development Process (-cont-) • Provide on-going support • Maintain the database and make sure the data is securely backed-up. • Make sure automated services load data into the database. • Help manufacturers with data submission. • Provide user support with data access, designing queries. • Bug fixes • Implement enhancements based on changes in business process.
