  1. Teaching Effectively Take a few minutes to learn this tool by going through this Power Point that the L2L 201 class prepared with audio and associated videos. You will find that by using this tool, you will save yourself TIME and EFFORT in the future! Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled A Leader’s tool:

  2. Do you ever feel that even after training your staff, they are still not performing to your expectations????? The E.M.O.E Teaching Model will help!!!

  3. The “E.M.O.E.” Teaching Model consists of 4 steps: E: Explain M: Model O: Observe E: Evaluate

  4. Before Getting started REMEMBER: Every person has a different learning style, and you will teach to that learning style. Learning Styles & examples of what to use for each:

  5. STEP 1: EXPLAIN **Explain why the task you are teaching is important. **Provide specific details. **Explain common mistakes that have occurred.

  6. STEP 2: MODEL **Do the task exactly as you would like it done. ** Explain in detail what you are doing while completing the task. ** Ask: Do you have any questions?

  7. **Ask the staff to complete the skill on their own. **Allow staff to complete task as if you were not there! **Take notes, write down what corrections should be made. STEP 3: OBSERVE

  8. **Provide feedback: • -What they did well • -Point out mistakes • -Ask staff if they know how to correct their mistakes **Have staff ask any questions they need in order to perform to expectations. STEP 4: EVALUATE

  9. THE E.M.O.E. MODEL Repeat until staff can perform the task completely without any help!
