  4. Democrats • More radical than liberals • Willing to endorse violence to get their ways

  6. Utilitarianism • Jeremy Bentham • Proposed laws should rely on “The greatest happiness of the greatest numbers” • John Stuart Mill • On Liberty • Absolute freedom of opinion to be protected from both gov’t and tyranny
