  1. The Shoulder Joint

  2. Muscles of the Shoulder Joint Chapter 5

  3. Anterior Shoulder Muscles • Coracobrachialis • Pectoralis Major • Subscapularis

  4. Coracobrachialis • O: Coracoid process • I: Anteromedial surface of midshaft of humerus • Actions: • Flexion • Adduction of the shoulder • Horizontal Adduction

  5. Pectoralis Major • Origin: • Medial two-thirds of clavicle • Sternum • Insertion: intertubercular groove • Actions • Upper fibers (Clavicular) • Internal rotation • Horizontal Adduction • Flexion • Adduction • Lower fibers (Sternal) • Internal Rotation • Horizontal adduction • Extension • Adduction

  6. Subscapularis • O: Subscapular fossa • I: Lesser tubercle and crest of humerus • Actions: • Internal Rotation • Adduction • Extension • Stabilization • Anterior Rotator Cuff Muscle.

  7. Superior Shoulder Muscles • Deltoid • Supraspinatus

  8. Deltoid • Origin • Lateral 1/3 of clavicle (Anterior fibers) • Acromion process (Middle fibers) • Spine of scapula (Posterior fibers) • Insertion – deltoid tuberosity • Actions • Anterior – Abduction, Flexion, Horizontal adduction, & Internal rotation. • Middle – Abduction • Posterior – Abduction, Extension, Horizontal abduction, & External rotation

  9. Supraspinatus • O: Supraspinous fossa • I: Greater tubercle • Action: • Abduction • Stabilization • Superior Rotator Cuff Muscle. • Most injuired rotator cuff muscle

  10. Inferior Shoulder Muscles • Latissimus Dorsi • Teres Major

  11. Latissimus Dorsi • O: Spinous process of lower 6 thorasic and all lumbar and sacral vertebrae; iliac crest • I: Intertubercular groove • Actions: • Adduction • Extension • Internal Rotation • Horizontal Abduction

  12. Teres Major • O: Inferior angle of scapula • I: Intertubercular groove • Actions: • Extension • Adduction • Internal rotation • “Lats little helper”

  13. Posterior Shoulder Muscles • Infraspinatus • Teres Minor

  14. Infraspinatus • O: Infraspinous fossa • I: Greater tubercle • Actions: • External rotation • Horizontal abduction • Extension • Stabilization • Posterior Rotator Cuff Muscle • Second most commonly injured rotator cuff muscle

  15. Teres Minor • O: Upper 2/3 of lateral border of scapula • I: Greater tubercle • Actions: • External rotation • Horizontal abduction • Extension • Stabilization • Posterior Rotator Cuff Muscle

  16. List the muscles for Horizontal Adduction Name the muscles for Horizontal Abduction Study guide

  17. List the muscles that do flexion of the shoulder Practice • List the muscles that do extension of the shoulder

  18. List the muscles that do adduction of the shoulder Practice List the muscles that do abduction of the shoulder

  19. List the muscles that do internal rotation of the shoulder Practice • List the muscles that do external rotation of the shoulder
