  2. The History of Le Cordon Bleu • Expression “Cordon Bleu” comes from 1578 foundation of the Orders of the Holy Spirit • Spectacular banquets were legendary, members wore a medal suspended from a blue ribbon • Today phrase used in French language to designate an outstanding chef

The History of Le Cordon Bleu • 1895: journalist Marthe Distel published weekly magazine La Cuisinière Cordon Bleu • School was opened shortly after by Marthe Distel • January 14th, 1896: first cooking demonstration ever to be held on an electric stove • International reputation spread rapidly • Students from a variety of countries have enrolled including notable figures such as Julia Child in 1950

Le Grande Diplôme Le Cordon Bleu Combines the Diplôme de Cuisine and Diplôme de Pâtisserie Divided into three levels in cuisine and three levels in pâtisserie Receive a certificate at each level Can just go for one diploma and not other Diplôme Cuisine Three Levels then receive diploma Basic Cuisine Intermediate Cuisine Superior Cuisine Diplôme de Pâtisserie Three Levels then receive diploma Basic Pâtisserie Intermediate Pâtisserie Superior Pâtisserie Diplomas and Certificates

Cuisine program: 3 demonstrations 3 practical classes Pâtisserie program: 2 demonstrations 2 practical classes Demonstrations and Practical classes are scheduled Monday through Saturday at 8:30am, 3:30pm, and 6:30pm Enrolled in diploma or certificate program Must wear Le Cordon Bleu uniform and keep it tidy and presentable at all times Weekly Schedule, Equipment and Uniform
