  2. Writing Notebook Your writing notebook is a portfolio of your ideas. It is a place for you to write: • things that make you happy, sad, angry, amazed • things you notice and don't want to forget • reactions • lists • questions, memorable conversations • favorite words, passages or quotes • sketches • memories, timelines, maps • seed ideas, story ideas, experiences Your notebook is not a diary or journal.

  3. Mini-Lessons Mini-lessons are: • led by the teacher • 5-15 minutes long • lesson related to the writing unit we are studying • connect strategies and ideas we learn each day • a chance to practice something new together • try out the new strategy on your own

  4. Conferring I will be conferring with each writer at least once a week. This means I will be meeting with you individually to share your progress and assist you with strategies. What conferring looks and sounds like with your partner or teacher will be covered in more detail soon.

  5. Writing Partners What do writing partners do? Listen Encourage Inspire Partners are selected by the teacher or sometimes by you. Partners help one another share thoughts and ideas about their writing during conferring time. We will discuss expectations in more detail later.

  6. Mentor Texts In Writing Workshop, we will be reading literature that help us think and write the way our favorite authors do. Studying authors will help us develop our own style!

  7. Writer’s Log Your writer's log is writing to be completed outside of school. Requirements: • write 3 entries a week • date each entry • write for 10 minutes • must be a full page of writing • ideas can be shared on idea board Mini-lesson coming soon with more details.
