  2. Task: Classify WoS source journals in terms of Open Access journals or not. I found this list of OA WoS journals at http://blog.lib.umn.edu/scholcom/accessdenied/206168.html and edited it into the file WOS OA 2009.cla looking like this. Do it yourself and be sure to have it here! Must be sorted alphabetically by 1st column

  3. I also have an out-file based on the source journal field (SO) of Web of Science records from my university with PY=2009 Make such a file for your own download. Now, run Add data classify/Binary search and answer Yes to print not found, and No for multiple hits

  4. The result is in the cll-file, which you may open in Excel and edit it there

  5. Now, about 7 percent is published in OA-journals

  6. How to find abbreviated journal names in full journal names. From the WoS cited journal list at: http://images.webofknowledge.com/WOK46/help/WOS/0-9_abrvjt.html I made a classification file, web of science contents abbr journals.cla, looking like this: 1990 AMA WINTER EDUCATORS CONFERENCE AMER MAR AS 1990 BLEACH PLANT OPERATIONS SHORT COURSE NOTES TECH 1990 DYES, FILLERS & PIGMENTS SHORT COURSE NOTES TECH 1990 ENGINEERING CONFERENCE, BOOK 1 AND 2 P TECH AS P 1990 ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE, BOOKS 1 AND 2 P TECH AS P 1990 FINISHING AND CONVERTING CONFERENCE P TECH AS P . In total 58.187 journal names. Imagine what you could do with that list! Of course you can switch and sort the columns if you wish to search by abbreviation rather than ful l name. Using this list I classified the WOS OA list to replace the full journal names with the abbreviated journal names, resulting in a file named wos oa 2009 abbr.cla looking like this: AAPS J Open Access AAPS PHARMSCITECH Open Access ABSTR APPL ANAL Open Access ACTA ADRIAT Open Access ACTA BIOCHIM POL Open Access ACTA BIOQUIM CLIN L Open Access ACTA BOT MEX Open Access ACTA CHIM SLOV Open Access . . Lets us use that new WOS OA list to classify our cited journals in terms of open access or not!   7. Now, select the cited references.out file and make it a cited journal file, using these settings and press Start

  8. Next, select the oux-file and make a cit-file from it. Choose Whole string and then next to it press Start.

  9. Select the cited reference.cit file make these settings Now, run Add data classify/Binary search and answer Yes to print not found, and No for multiple hits

  10. Open the cll-file in Excel and make some small editing and with a Pivot table you will fins that about 2 percent of the citations made in 2009 go to 2009 OA Journals
