  1. Jerry Lodriguss Sports Photographer

  2. Jerry Lodriguss' professional career began in 1974 working part time shooting high school sports for $5 per picture at a small suburban weekly newspaper in New Orleans. He then worked as a staff photographer for the Times-Picayune in New Orleans, and as Louisiana Newspicture Bureau Manager for United Press International. After leaving UPI, he freelanced Sports Illustrated, Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today. From 1987 until 2009 he worked at the Philadelphia Inquirer as their staff sports photographer. Jerry also takes astrophotos of objects such as nebulae and galaxies and has published three books. Biography

  3. The type of photography Jerry captures or takes is motion photography. For example he took this picture of a pitcher in motion throwing a fastball. Type of Photography

  4. What’s so neat about it • What's so cool about this type of photography is that he captures athletes in motion. This is very neat because his pictures capture the moment when the exciting parts happen in a game.

  5. Equipment • He’s shot all of his sports with Nikon and Canon digital SLR cameras since 2000. He started with Nikon film cameras when his career began in 1976 because that's what most newspapers supplied. Nikon digital SLRs were used from 2000 until about the middle of 2004 when he switched over to Canon. Only a couple of pictures in the early 2000's were shot on film when the single digital camera that he was issued was in for repairs.

  6. Other pictures • Jerry also takes some pictures of Space. This is called astrophotography. This picture is called the Great Galaxy in Andromeda

  7. Tips • 1) Practice • 2)Whenever you have the chance to take shots, take advantage of it • 3)Timing- you have to anticipate what is going to happen • 4)Don’t buy cheap cameras • 5)Be prepared
