  5. Statistics & Population • 90% die between 2 and 5 years old • 1/1000 die each year • 20,000 affected in United States • 400 babies affected yearly • 18,000 provided hospitals for Hemophilia

  6. Diagnosis Hemophilia is Diagnosed through…. • Physical Examinations • Medical History • Blood Test, Clotting factor levels • Blood Counts • DNA Testing • Assessment of Bleeding times • Placenta sample if pregnant

  7. Symptoms • Bruising • Bleeding of muscle and joints • Pain and Swelling • Bleeding in head, throat and neck • Uncontrolled bloody noses • Gastrointestinal bleeding • Urinary bleeding • Bleeding after dental work, circumcision and surgery

  8. Treatments • Replacement Therapy • Medications • Pain Relievers (NOT Aspirin or NSAIDS cause blood clotting) • Drug Desmopressin only with Mild

  9. Everyday Life • Hockey, Football, Wrestling are dangerous • Soccer, Basketball, Baseball have risks but can be played • Swimming and Exercise is needed • Hemophilic have higher risks of getting STDs LIFE EXPECTANCY: 68 years if affected with STDs
