  1. What is an identity? What are the Pythagorean identities? Where does the Pythagorean identities come from? Review of Reciprocal Identities. What are the quotient identities? Pythagorean Identities

  2. What is an identity? • An equation that is true for all values of the variable for which the expressions in an equation are defined.

  3. Reciprocal Identities

  4. Quotient Identities

  5. Pythagorean Identity sin²θ+ cos²θ=1 • Where does this come from? Now lets look at the Pythagorean theorem using the unit circle!!! Pythagorean Theorem! a²+b²=c² c b a X²+Y²=1²

  6. Pythagorean Identity sin²θ+ cos²θ=1 When it comes to the unit circle x means? Cos Y means? Sin Therefore, y²+x²=1 then sin²θ+cos²θ=1

  7. So here they are… Pythagorean Identities • Tan²θ + 1= sec²θ • sin²θ+cos²θ=1 • 1 + Cot²θ=csc²θ

  8. Even –Odd Identities
