  1. Natura 2000 software ‘hands-on workshop’1. 12. 2011, Copenhagen Overview on changes old-new SDF Sabine Roscher

  2. What does the revised SDF no longer contain? • Relation with other described sites (former 1.5) • History (former 4.7) • Altitude (2.4) • Relation with Corine Biotope Sites (former 5.3) • Slides and other photographic material (8)

  3. What has been newly added to the SDF? • Percentage of marine area in the site (2.3) Overview in the definition of the marine boundary as used by MS for field 2.3 of the Standard Data Form is the Reference Portal http://bd.eionet.europa.eu/activities/Natura_2000/reference_portal For some MS the information in the reference portal is still missing, please provide this information to the EC with cc to ETC/BD

  4. SDF Fields which have been revised/adapted? • Site type (1.1) • The categories for the “site type” are reduced from 11 to 3. The remaining ones are A(=SPA), B(=SCI), C(=SCI+SPA) • Respondent (1.6) • A simple structure was introduced to make the free text more readable. It is recommended to enter new Addresses according to the Inspire standard (municipality, postcode, town, street name, house number) • Site indication and designation / classification dates (1.7, former 1.8) • A field for citation of national legal reference of SAC designation was introduced;

  5. Site centre location (2.1) the units changed to the standard which is used nowadays (decimal degrees). • Site surface area, site length (2.2, 2.3) Also for small sites the area should be > 0, site length is optional now. • Administrative region code and name (2.5) This field has been simplified to NUTS level 2 as a more detailed level is not considered as essential, percentage of the administrative region removed as not considered as relevant. • Site Protection Status (5.1 and 5.2) slightly adopted

  6. Biogeographical Regions (2.6) • The marine regions were added (Marine Atlantic, Marine Black Sea, Marine Baltic Sea, Marine Mediterranean, Marine Macaronesian). • Ownership As the missing structure of the field does not allow using the data for statistical purposes, standardised categories were introduced. • Site management Indication on whether a management plan does exist (‘yes’, ‘in preparation’, ‘no’) and the body responsible for the site management are obligatory now. Further information on conservation measures can be given within a free-text field

  7. Threats, pressures and activities with impact on the site the reference list harmonised with the list for Article 17 reporting. This field does replace the obligatory text-field "vulnerability". (If necessary additional information not covered by threats, pressures and activities, which was entered in the vulnerability field of the former SDF, can be placed in the field documentation.) The data entries for the highest rank are limited to a maximum of five negative and five positive impacts. The minimum obligatory number of data entries for each table is one impact. If there are no impacts and to be reported, enter ‘x’. Within a category (H or M or L), there is no ranking. Data entries for impacts and activities with medium or low importance can be listed up to a limit of 20 entries. However, it is recommended to focus on the most relevant impacts and activities for the site.

  8. General Habitat Classes Still the same as before, in a later stage the categories for the marine habitat classes will be reviewed in order to harmonise the list with the MSFD • Habitat types (Annex I) (3.1) the area covered by a habitat type within a site is needed instead of percentage, measurement unit is [ha] With regard to the fact, that these values have to be estimated if real figures are not available, the field data quality is introduced to indicate whether the data quality is good, medium or poor.

  9. Species (Article 4 BD, Annex II HD) the new form allows now also entries for more than one “population types” (breeding, wintering, …) for a species separate fields for min/max size and population units, addition of indication of data quality In case that population size can even not be estimated, the ‘abundance categories’ can be used instead (common, rare, very rare, present). newly introduced field ‘sensitive data’ newly introduced field ‘non-presence’ • Other species new motivation category for Annex IV or V species The entries for population size are structured in the same way as for the Annex II species.

  10. Overview switch to new SDF

  11. Data transfer formats 1) Structure is defined in Natura 2000 software 2) The export format can be generated by Your own application ReportNet 3) Data upload to ReportNet: Database (mdb) or xml document
