  2. Tables of Content Determine Styles Use the Format Painter Apply the Styles once your writing is complete Under the References Ribbon, use the Table of Contents wizard

  3. Tables of Content Right Click to Update Always update the ENTIRE table You can change a style and add to the table at anytime Once the Table of Contents is created, the items become hyperlinks

  4. Creating Styles Apply formatting that suits your document and purpose Add styles if you need them and share them across documents Use the Style Inspector to see all the styles in the document and avoid errors

  5. Headers and Footers Always Use the Edit Headers or Edit Footers option Always put your page numbers in FIRST! Use section breaks to put in varying headers or footers

  6. Headers and Footers Consider putting in an image Edit the Headers and Footers to see the options for odd and even pages Avoid linking to previous sections if at all possible

  7. Footnotes and EndNotes Footnotes are within the document and endnotes come at the end Decide if the numbering is continuous or re-starts in each section/chapter Word makes footnotes a hyperlink in the document when they are created

  8. Footnotes and EndNotes You can always convert footnotes to endnotes and vice versa Your numbering scheme can be numbers, roman numerals, or letters You can use symbols or custom items for footnotes

  9. Works Cited You can choose the citation style you need under the Review ribbon Manage sources keeps track of all the sources you use Use Insert Bibliography to quickly add references to your paper
