  2. ADD Administration on Developmental Disabilities • Federal agency that administers the four programs authorized by the DD Act. • The DD act includes the following • Developmental Disabilities Council’s Protection • Advocacy Systems • University Affiliated Programs • Projects of national significance

  3. DEC Division For Early Childhood • Promotes policies and practices that support families and enhances the optimal development of children that might have special needs.

  4. CEC Council for exceptional Children Organization that supports individuals that work on behalf of children with special needs.

  5. LRE Least Restrictive Environment Federal law states that children with disabilities receive their education in manner that does not remove them from a classroom with non disabled peers unless it is absolutely necessary.

  6. LDA Learning Disabilities Association of America Their main purpose is to advance the education and general welfare of children and adults of normal or potentially normal intelligence who manifest disabilities of a perceptual, conceptual, or coordinative nature.

  7. RSP Resource Specialist Program RSP provides special education instruction services to students who spend the majority of their time in school in a regular classroom but need more help individually. Students that are in RSP will get additional help from either the instructor, by the RSP teacher, or an instructional aid. The additional instruction is done in collaboration with the regular teacher.

  8. IEP Individualized Education Program When it has been determined that a child is going to need special education an IEP will be formed. Parents, teachers and administrators are all included in this process. An IEP includes a summary of the child's present levels of performance, a list of goals/objectives, and any specific services that need to be provided for the child. An IEP meeting is held every year to see if the needs of the child need to be adjusted in any way.

  9. SDC Special Day Class These classes are for the students whose IEP indicate that the student would benefit from being in a special education class. Meaning that they would be spending the majority of their day in a special education class with a special education teacher.

  10. CAC Community Advisory Committee The main purpose of the CAC is to help in the development of special education programs and to help facilitate communication and understanding. The CAC is made up of school personnel,parents, special education teachers and many others.
