EFS activity • 8670 staff members • Main activity fields : • Transfusion medicine • Biology/cell engineering • Research and development • International Cooperation • 500 000 recipients/year, 2 million units delivered /year • 1 500 000 donors/year, 8000 donations/day • 630 000 liter of Plasma for fractionation

EFS main missions 8000 whole blood donations/ day • Organize throughout France blood collection, testing and processing and distribution of the blood components • Supply the fractionation centre (LFB) with plasma • Promote blood donation and ethical principles • Ensure that the needs for safe blood components are satisfied and that the activity is adapted to medical progress. 800 platelets donations/day 1000 plasma Donations/day

  5. 3. EFS main missions • Foster research activities and disseminate information and knowledge • Organize the rare blood groups file and coordinate reference laboratories • Participate in disaster planning • Participate in European and International cooperation programs

EFS’ International cooperation principles • EFS intervenes after the official demand of countries; • The agreement of partnership between EFS and the applicant country is signed on the national level; • EFS engage the international partnership only for the middle and long term actions. For that purpose, it establishes, with applicant countries, an evaluation of their real needs, and then an action plan is elaborated based on a common agreement

EFS’ International cooperation Cooperation’s zones of EFS • · Asia: Afghanistan, Vietnam • · Middle East: Iran, Iraq, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Yemen • · Europe: Albania, Croatia, Macedonia • · Africa: Algeria, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Togo, Ethiopia, as well as Morocco and Tunisia at the university level • · America: Chile, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia

  8. 5.EFS - IBTO Cooperation programs • The official demand of IBTO (2004) • Evaluation of the real needs, elaboration of an action plan based on a common agreement (2005) • The agreement of partnership between EFS and IBTO signed in Paris (2007)

EFS – IBTO cooperation The purpose of the agreement • Facilitating the elaboration of research projects in all fields of blood transfusion for their scientists • Exchange of knowledge and experience in different fields • Management and operation of blood transfusion centers • Transfusion therapy • Cell therapy • Technical training and scientific cooperation in blood transfusion and transfusion medicine by the exchange of specialists, • Technology transfers

EFS – IBTO cooperation Implementation • Meeting of the two parties once a year to: • Prepare the action plan for the coming year • Identify the programme • Define the implementations of the program • The cooperation is subordinated to the continuation of the approval of the Embassy of France in Iran and the French government
