  2. Study Proves We Need Harman • Previous study suggested closing 3 pads by 2011- now only 0.75 pad unsold ice • Use your own growth info to project needs “forecast to be fastest growing CMA between 2010 and 2013 due to strong population growth” • We are experiencing influx of tykes from North of Taunton • New Homes = New Families = New Players

  3. More Ice Time Will be LOST • Currently only receiving a portion of GMC • Generals and Events decrease available ice • Availability will continue to be reduced by: • Oshawa Power Basketball • Oshawa Machine Lacrosse • Durham Turf Dogs Lacrosse

  4. We Cannot lose 2 pads • Identical analysis by the same consultant indicates 1.06 – 1.21 pad surplus • This is based on unallocated, not UNSOLD • Based on unsold we have about .75 surplus • This has shrunk from last study’s 2.0 to 2.5 • As we continue to grow this will soon become a deficit

  5. Impact of Losing Harman • With less than 10.5 pads available closing 2 equates to an approximate 20% loss • Rep Division plays a fixed schedule of games with other centres • We would lose practice ice and development programs • To develop players should practice more than they play – we will stop developing

  6. Deficit Will Grow • Losing two pads will create an automatic deficit in a time of growing demand • Planning to replace the lost pads will take years • We should develop a long range plan to replace aging arenas for the 2013 budget cycle. • We agreed to an arena replacement surcharge in 2002 to avoid losing pads and it hasn’t worked

  7. The Prime Time Issue • Prime time ice starts at 4:30 – unusable as players need parents and coaches who are still at work • Current list of available ice is mostly 4:30 or after 10:00 pm start times – we are at capacity on usable ice • 5:00 is the right time for Prime

  8. Selling Unallocated Ice • Neighbouring centres are desperate for ice • We should be charging non resident rates for these hours as we are at capacity • Demand will continue to increase
