2. zvulun medical center Zvulun medical center was founded in 1984 in the city of Kiryat-bialik . The center serves a population of 330,000 residents who are ensured by “Clalit Health Services” (The biggest HMO in Israel and the second HMO in the world). In 1996 the center was relocated and extended its activities, offering the patients a wide range of services close to their neighborhood, and collaborating with the community in diversified projects for all ages. Zvulun medical center aimed to the 21 century medicine focusing on ambulatory medicine: surgery, Extensive Ambulatory investigations and treatments, and ambulatory surgery.

4. General information • 4000 clients a day. • 350 workers including: doctors , nurses, technicians etc. • 120 doctors, some of them working part time in the hospital and part time in the medical center. • The center works in close contact and relationship with Carmel medical hospital, a university hospital with 450 beds. • 40 volunteers . • 30 national service girls (girls from low socioeconomic background who work in medical services instead of compulsory military service)

5. General information • Open 6 days a week from 07:00-21:00. • Fully computerized including clients medical records, links to intranet medical web sites. • Facilitating for handicap persons. • Education site for students nurses. • Infusion site (ivig, venofer, aclasta etc..)

7. Oncology ward A community ward with a setup for chemotherapy and adjuvant treatments, A multidisciplinary staff which gives the patients the benefit of close to home treatments. The ward is part of the ward in “Carmel” medical hospital based in Haifa.

8. research • A number of researches are in progress: • Blood test for breast cancer associated anibodies (breast clinic) • Pre veiw php preferential hyperactivity for the detection of chroidal neovascularization (eye clinic) • Comparing two sedating pre medication drugs (operating ward). • Is thyroid test needed in the management of hair loss.

9. Five Operation Theaters • fully equipped for ambulatory operations, giving the client an homely atmosphere without the need to travel far or stay overnight in the hospital. • Cataract (1300 per year) • Hernia (children & adolescence) • E.N.T. operations (child &adolescence) • Hysteroscopy and Ob. procedures • Urology • Breast surgery – breast biopsy and lumpectomy.

12. additional activities in the center Continuing Education Program to family practitioners (120 doctors a year)& nurses given by the centers experts. Educational programs to high school students in preventive medicine (smoking ,drugs ,alcohol) ,safe sexual behavior, guidance of students in medical & science projects. Health promoting lectures open to the public in diverse topics. Workshops: preparing for childbirth, breastfeeding promotion, rehabilitation program after heart attack, smoking cessation, healthy nutrition etc.

13. The Friends of Zvulun association • Volunteer from the community who raise contributions for new medical technologies and equipment . In the last 6 years the association has donated : • ultrasound for the breast clinic. • Two colonoscopies &video monitor for gastroenterology. • Television sets for waiting rooms. • Monitors for the operating theaters. • Helman diathermia to plastic surgery. • Money for the oncology department. • new cardiac Echocardiography
