Volunteer Policy • Registering • One player - 14 hours • Two or more players - 20 hours • Dibs • Update volunteer page on postings and Facebook • Claim items by date or category, work and complete items • Can’t work – 7 days to cancel – if after contact us • Volunteer Deposit Check • Deposit Form $500 deposit per player • No Show • $50 Fine or 7 additional hours • Forms • Volunteer deposit for with $500 deposit check • If hours are complete, turn in copy of Dibs report

  9. DIBS (On-line Volunteer System) • How to "claim" an item? Log into www.omgha.com and click on LOGIN (located in the upper left hand corner of the screen) and enter username and password. Click on 2011-2012 OMGHA Volunteering. When you find an item that works, simply click on that item and select "claim this DIB item". You may filter your choices by date or category. • New features this season: • OMGHA registration will automatically enroll you in DIBS as a 1 player or 2 player family unless you exercised a volunteer buyout. • Email reminders will be sent out one business day prior to your assignment. • Ability to select volunteer opportunities by date or category (concessions, tryouts, tournaments, etc). DIBS shows one month out from today's date. You can simply set your own data range filtering by choosing dates using the built in calendar functionality.

  10. DIBS (Continued) What to do if you selected a duty to work and you can't make it? Log in with your username and password (located in the upper left hand corner of the screen) and then click on "UTOOLS". Click on My Dibs: View all of my currently claimed DIB items. Select the duty you want to cancel and click on "cancel claim". Each task will have a stated cancellation period which is typically 7 days. Once you've cancelled the duty, this will then be put back into the pool of volunteer opportunities. What to do after you have worked the shift? After you have completed the assigned duty, you may view your DIB items by entering your username and password  (located in the upper left hand corner of the screen) and then click on UTOOLS. Click on My Dibs: View all my currently claimed DIB items. You can then click on the text that is in the DIB ITEM column (for example, concessions). Then that will load up a new screen that will give you the option to select "verify completion". Once you have selected the "verify completion", you will get a message that states your request has been sent and will then be completed by the Volunteer Coordinator Team.

Terms and Definitions USA Hockey Terms and Definitions: Mite – Any skater boy or girl who is eight years old or younger 8U – Any girl skater who is eight years old or younger OMGHA Terms and Definitions: Mite 1 – Five year old skaters or Kindergarteners Mite 2 – Six year old skaters or 1st graders Supermite – seven and eight year old skaters or 2nd and 3rd graders U8 – seven and eight year old girl skaters or 2nd and 3rd graders Squirt, Peewee, Bantam, High School / Junior Gold

  13. Concerns of Minnesota Hockey: • Attrition rates for players, coaches, and referees are increasing. (Statistics suggest up to 70% of players quit hockey by the age of 13). • Skill development and fun are sometimes placed second to winning. • Emphasis on winning has taken the game away from the players. • Aggressiveness of parents • Coaching Expertise In response to this concern, Minnesota Hockey has developed a new, innovative program to help give the game back to the kids. The Hockey Education Program (HEP) includes skill development for players, education for coaches and parents, and accountability for all stakeholders in hockey today. We encourage all players and parents to visit www.minnesotahockey.org and learn more about HEP. Also, we may be able to obtain further materials from our ACE Coordinator, if interested.

Being a Parent… • Parents are expected to provide their players with the required equipment and assist them with properly caring for it. • Parent is ultimately responsible in a serious injury situation, be present. • The OMGHA Handbook – Please take the time to read it. • Positive reinforcement of the children – How is your car ride home? • Conduct yourself in a sportsmanship-like manner and instill in your own player • Failure to be a positive role model will hurt you and your child • Have access to the OMGHA and team website and check it frequently for updates. • Parents are required to volunteer a minimum of 14 hours per player, per family • Slap Shop • Concession Stand • Tourney Tickets, Timer, Scorekeeper, etc. • Assigned through team manager • Check www.omgha.com volunteering page

  17. Being a Coach… • A coach is responsible for the operation and conduct of their team. They are the teacher of skills and developer of players; socially, physically, and psychologically. • Respect, encourage, and compliment players • Develop each player as much as possible • Enforce rules fairly and consistently • Equal time for all players • Maintain proper control/discipline at all times and serve as model for team • Show enthusiasm and make hockey fun • Learn to know the parents and encourage an open and positive communication line • Deal with issues on case-by-case basis • Ask player to take time out during a practice or game, if needed • Anyone who is on the ice, other than the team players, must be on the roster and hold a current CEP certification and have completed a background check

  18. Being a Team Manager… • The team manager is the liaison between coaches and the parents. She will support the coaching philosophy, foster good communications with parents, and manage the business of the team. • Schedule necessary parent/player meetings • Compile, complete, and/or distribute critical documentation • Team roster, ice schedules, Code of Conduct • Coordinate team-related activities; • Team pictures, snacks, etc. • Distribute/collect jerseys, socks, name placards, etc. • Assure team fills team volunteer hours as assigned by volunteer coordinator • Maintain team page on OMGHA website

Schedule and the Season • When do we start? • Supermites/U8 - HEP October 13th Season October 27th • Mites – November 3rd • Mini-Mites – November 10th • Forming teams – HEP Only for SM/U8’s, neighborhoods, Coaches • Teams will be formed about one week prior to season • Indoor ice – Saturday and Sundays • Outdoor ice – Mites Tues, SM / U8 Mon and Thu • Practices and scrimmages – Shared Ice • SM Full Ice – After Jan 1, 8-10 games • Mites Half Ice • Mid-Season 3 on 3 Events • Great Fun, Food, Music • Mite Night and SM/8U Jamboree

  20. What do we need for equipment… • Parents are expected to provide their players with the required equipment and assist them with properly caring for it. Hockey is a game that carries with it a certain risk of injury to the player. This risk can be greatly reduced by following certain guidelines. • Garter belt/jock shorts/Jill shorts to hold socks and protect pelvic area • Shin pads • Socks (Ordered by Coaches) • Breezers • Shoulder pads • Neck protectors • Elbow pads • Jersey (these are provided by the association) • HECC approved helmet and face shields • Colored mouth guards, attached to helmet • Hockey gloves • Skates and Skate Guards • Stick • Big Hockey Bag • Outdoor warmth
