Grammar • Parts of Speech: Pronouns • Personal: 1st, 2nd, 3rd (I, me, we, you, she, he, him etc) • Antecedent: Word that a pronoun replaces • Demonstrative: Directs attention • This, That, These, Those • Relative: Relates parts of the sentences • That, Which, Whom, Whose, Who • Interrogative: Asks a question • Who, Whom, What, Whose, Which • Indefinite: Undefined amount • Ex: some, all, many, everyone, both, someone • Reflexive/Intensive: Ends in –self, -selves • R- Reflects back on action in sentence • I- intensifies meaning of sentence

  8. Grammar • Conjunctions: Link parts of sentence together • Coordinating • FANBOYS • Correlative: 2 parts • Both…and, Neither….nor, Either….or, Not only… but also, whether… or • Subordinating: Is dependant on the rest of the sentence • EX: While, If, Because, Until, Since

  9. Grammar • Prepositions • word that relates the noun or pronoun that appears with it to another word in the sentence • End with an Object of the Preposition (noun or pronoun) Preposition + Noun/Pronoun (the object of the prep) makes a prepositional phrase

Billy • Transitive verb • Intransitive • Ask Who or What after Verb- If you can’t answer, Intransitive • I drove to school. • I drove who? • I drove what? • No Answer: Intransitive verb

  11. Complements and IO/DO • Renaming or describing subject • Subject + Linking verb + Adj (PA) • Subject + Linking verb + Noun (PN) • Subject + Action verb +who/what = DO • Subject + Action verb (DO) to whom/for whom = IO
