  1. Knowing God Chapter 10 God’s Wisdom and Ours

  2. God’s Wisdom and Ours Attributes of God God’s Gift of Wisdom Wisdom Analogies The Teaching of Ecclesiastes The Effect of Wisdom

  3. Attributes of God : Communicable attributes can be transferred Incommunicable attributes belong only to God The moral qualities God originally instilled in man were lost at the Fall The first 9 chapters of Proverbs are an exhortation to get wisdom and examples of how to do that To get wisdom we must reverence God and lay hold of His Word

  4. God’s Gift of Wisdom It is not knowing what God knows God doesn’t explain His ways to us Three types of depression: physical, mental, spiritual We can become depressed if we equate or spiritual state with how much we understand about God’s actions in our lives

  5. Wisdom Analogies Wisdom, like driving, involves big picture thinking “Almost the whole world is asleep. Everybody you know. Everybody you see. Everybody you talk to. He says that only a few people are awake and they live in a state of constant total amazement.” Ecclesiastes can cure us of looking at life unrealistically

  6. The Teaching of Ecclesiastes ‘The Preacher” Possibly written by Solomon or as a didactic device Written to teach lessons Solomon was uniquely qualified to teach Give up control of your life to God Acknowledge that much of what happens on earth is inexplicable to us Sloth is a joyless apathy of spirit created personal inertia God hides His purposes to keep us humble & reliant on Him The way of wisdom is to take what God gives and praise him still (Eli, Job)

  7. The Effect of Wisdom Choosing the best means to the best end The fruit of wisdom makes us more clear-sighted, more joyful, more godly God gives us wisdom that will bind us to Himself in faith
