  5. Ako describes a teaching and learning relationship where you as teachers are: • also learning from the student • informing your practice with the latest research • being deliberate and reflective in your practice • recognising that the student and their whānau cannot be separated.

  6. In an ako-rich classroom • teachers are not expected to know everything • each member of the classroom brings knowledge with them which others are able to learn from • new knowledge and understandings can grow out of shared learning experiences • Student achievement improves
