  1. ArcGIS Pro • What it is: “essential application for creating and working with spatial data on your desktop.” • “It will not replace arcmap” (at least for now). • 64 bit, multi-threaded application • Multiple license levels; extensions

  2. Getting started • Get your AGO user account ready (and organize your org account). • Connections stored in project not the application. Catalog window replaced with project window • Cannot export to older formats • Only working method to add sde data – browse to layer file

  3. Getting started (cont) • Can use existing models and scripts however uses Python 3.4 • .NET add-ins written for ArcGIS for Desktop will not run in ArcGIS Pro • No separate zoom, pan tools. Shift click for zoom to box • There is no “start editing” button • Task assistant tool is embedded

  4. Who knew? • Arcview is back! • APRX • Multiple layouts

  5. Finally! …Now that windows is doing away with start menus.

  6. My experiences • No popup windows for properties. Look for them in a docked window. • Finding it hard to locate what I am looking for • Found myself clicking on “project tab”

  7. Some issues & oddities • Browsing for mxd…can’t type first letter of folder

  8. Issues & oddities (cont) • Cannot add SQL views same way as other data. • Won’t read personal geodatabases? • Can only have 1 project open at a time?

What will not be available at V1.0 • Animations • Annotation creation and editing • COGO editing • Custom coordinate systems and transformations creation • Dimension creation and editing • Georeferencing toolbar • Geostatistical Analyst Wizard (Geostatistical Analyst) • Graphs • Direct KML support beyond the existing geoprocessing tools for importing • Dynamic grids and graticules • Image Classification toolbar (Spatial Analyst) • Parcel management and editing • Personal geodatabases • PKI security • Publishing dynamic map services • Publishing image services • Reports • SDK (.NET) for customizing and extending ArcGIS Pro (planning for a beta at the ArcGIS Pro 1.0 final release) • Topology editing • Utility networks

  12. When to expect? • ArcGIS 10.3, which will include ArcGIS Pro, is planned for release in the second half of 2014.
