  3. Session Objectives • Gain a deeper understanding of the major components of Louisiana’s Comprehensive Literacy Plan • Learn how to use the plan to improve and sustain literacy

Development of Louisiana’s Comprehensive Literacy Plan • Spring 2009-Fall 2010: LDOE formed a task force to address three levels: Birth-PreK, Elementary, and Adolescent • November 2010: LA received a grant to create a State Literacy Team to assist LDOE in developing and implementing a comprehensive literacy plan • State Literacy Team worked over many months to ensure alignment between the three levels

  20. Suggested Guidelines for Analyzing Survey Results 1. Study the ratings by component and item. 2. Read the comments for additional insight. 3. Use other data sources to verify areas of strength and areas needing improvement. 4. Refer to the narratives and tables in the Plan to identify actions that will facilitate improvement. 5. Develop implementation steps for the actions. 6. Ensure implementation steps are applied.

  21. Item Analysis Activity 1. Select one of the items from the sample survey report. 2. Read the comments for additional insight. 3. List other data sources to verify areas of strength and areas needing improvement. 4. Refer to the narratives and tables in the Plan to identify actions that facilitate improvement. 5. Develop implementation steps for the actions. 6. List evidence that could be gathered to ensure implementation steps are applied.

District and School Next Steps • Ensure teachers know how to access LACLiP, understand how to use it, and know expectations for its use • Complete the literacy capacity survey at the school or site level • Use other data sources to validate survey results • Use the Plan and Item Analysis Template to describe actions that facilitate implementation and monitoring
