Change StrategiesTarget Public: Asheville city youth ages 13-17 in low-income housing • Identified Need: Asheville city youth ages 13-17 in low-income housing need to learn basic • Social skills and dining etiquette as well as healthy ways to resolve conflict Macro-Strategy (S.E.E.C.): Asheville city youth ages 13-17 from low- income housing will attend a one month workshop called Young Men Unite! with their mentor, designed to teach good social skills conflict resolution, and and table manners as well as have a final test of dining out in a nice restaurant and able to pass all requirements. Behavior Change: *Asheville city youth ages 13-17 from low-income housing will apply the skills they have learned throughout the Young Men Unite! workshop and apply the information and insight gained by listening to two guest speakers *Asheville city youth ages 13-17 from low-income housing will apply their good table manners by passing all the requirements while dining out at a nice restaurant with their parent, mentors and peers. Aspiration Change: Buncombe county youth ages 13-17 in low-income housing will attend a workshop called Young Men Unite! Where youth will be able to hear inspiring stories of change and success as well as understand why these social skills are important to learn Skills Change Buncombe county youth ages 13-17 from low-income housing will attend a one month workshop and will be provided the skills necessary to learn good greeting skills, conflict resolution and good table manners by role-playing different scenarios with their mentors and peers. Knowledge Change Buncombe county youth ages 13-17 from low-income housing will listen to two special guest speakers, one speaker from the North Carolina department of corrections. This inmate will talk about the importance of the skills he has learned about in his own life and what being a positive role model is important. The other speaker will be a junior staff from Journeymen talking about how learning these skills have helped him change and be able to get farther in life.

OutcomesTarget Public: Asheville city youth ages 13-17 in low-income housing Macro-Outcome: *Asheville city youth utilize resources available from the male mentors in their life to bring about positive behavior change and growth into man hood Behavior Change: *Asheville city youth implement their positive behavior, self –respect, and conflict management skills by interacting with adults and peers *Asheville city youth will receive opportunities in the community to graduate high school and obtain a job Aspiration Change: *City youth desire to want to achieve their dream job *City youth desire to graduate from High School *City youth desire to be role models for others in their communities Skills Change: *City youth utilize different options available to them *City youth utilize their strengths and talents *City youth utilize the knowledge learned from their mentors and other role models and obtain better social skills Attitude Change *Asheville city youth understand and appreciate the male role models in their life *Asheville city youth believe they can graduate from high school and go to college Knowledge Change *Asheville city youth can understand proper table manners * Asheville city youth understand how to resolve a conflict *Asheville city youth understand basic social skills * Asheville city youth understand how to be a role model in their community

Measureable ObjectivesTarget Public: Asheville city youth ages 13-17 in low-income housing • Identified Need: Asheville city youth need to learn and demonstrate basic social skills, conflict management, and proper table manners to be able to succeed and be respectful members of their community. Behavior Change: : At least 60% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate increased proper table manners as measured by a monthly dinner outing with their mentor. *At least 50% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate their knowledge about how to resolve a conflict by a three-month follow-up questionnaire as well as a pre and post test questionnaire given to teachers and guardians about their improvement *At least 50% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate their basic social skills by using them during outings with their mentors and the group as well as pre- and post test questionnaires given to their teachers and guardians. Also a six month follow up questionnaire given to teachers, guardians, and the youth involved Aspiration Change: At least 60% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate an aspiration to be a role model in their community as evaluated by a pre and post test questionnaire *At least 50% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate an aspiration to make new friends and meet new people as evaluated by a pre and post test questionnaire

Measurable ObjectivesContinued……. • Skills Change: At least 60% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate an increase in basic social skills by being able to use them during outings with their mentor and the group as evaluated by a pre test and post test questionnaire *At least 50% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate an increase in conflict resolution skills by not missing a day of school in six months. *At least 50% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate an increase in proper table manners by being able to chew their food properly, use a napkin, and have appropriate conversations as evaluated by a pre and post test questionnaire also a 6 month dinner outing with their mentors and the group Attitude Change: At least 60% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate an increase in their belief that they can learn new social skills and make new friends as evaluated by a pre and post test questionnaire *At least 50% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate an increase in their belief that they can resolve a conflict without getting into a fight as evaluated by a pre and post test questionnaire *At least 50% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate an increase in the understanding that good table manners are important as evaluated by a pre and post test questionnaire Knowledge Change: At least 60% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate an increase in knowledge of basic social skills as evaluated by pre and post test questionnaire *At least 60% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate an increase in their knowledge that they can resolve a conflict without getting into a fight as evaluated by a pre and post test *At least 60% of Asheville city youth who participate in the 2-hour a week for one month Young Men Unite workshop will demonstrate an increase in the understanding that good table manners are important as evaluated by a pre and post test questionnaire
