  2. The Importance of Communication inCross-border Water Management • EU Directives set out common guidelines for the implementation of common water policy actions. Emphasizing the following: • Solve the cross-border flood protection tasks, • Promote sustainable water use, • protect aquatic ecosystems and directly dependent terrestrial ecosystems and wetlands, • safeguard and develop potential uses of Community waters.

Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of 23 October 2000 ”The success of this Directive relies on close cooperation and coherent action at Community, Member State and local level, as well as on information, consultation and involvement of the public, including water users.”

  4. Project HUSK 0801/2.1.2./0072 The Role of the Project in Transboundary Water Management: Project HUSK 0801/2.1.2./0072 and the Information Point help the conceived Community guidelines and requirements be implemented through intensifying the cooperation between two water management organization (SVP s.p. OZ Košice and ÉKÖVÍZIG), broadening the scope of professional dialogue and removing any communication obstacles. Under the project, assistance is also provided to the Tisza and Catchment Area Subcommittee of the Hungarian-Slovak Cross-border Waters Committethat coordinates common water-related responsibilities of the two countries involved.

Project HUSK 0801/2.1.2./0072 INFOPOINT features for information for water professionals and the community: • Continuous supply of detailed information on projects relating to cross-border waters, • Current daily information on major water facilities and structures as well as related technical documents (e.g. information on reservoirs operation), • Quality status of Water bodies in the Water Management Plant • Internet access to professional websites, • Access to a trilingual technical glossary that is continually extended and updated, • Knowing of the professional activities of partner water organisations, etc. • Using INFOPOINT, both professionals and the public can have continual access to information on the work of the Tisza and Catchment Area Subcommittee of the Hungarian-Slovak Cross-border Waters Committe.

  6. Objectives and Expectations under Project HUSK 0801/2.1.2./0072 relating to INFOPOINT Setup In Summary To allow both professional and the public to access water and environmental data and information, Information Points are being set up at the headquarters of both partners. By setting up such Infopoints (and through a shared use of databases), a cross-border system is created to provide sources of information with a view to raising awareness and sharing knowledge among a wider community in the impact area.

The INFOPOINT Equipment: • 1 computer with touchscreen • 1 scanner and • 1 printer The Hungarian INFOPOINT is located in the lounge behind the turnstiles on the ground floor of ÉKÖVIZIG’s headquarters at 77 Vörösmarty St. Miskolc. Features available (free of charge): • search of databases, • limited printing facility, • limited facility to save information to an external digital data carrier.

  10. Operating the Infopoint The operation of the INFOPOINT and all related activities are governed by the Code of Operation as well as other relevant current instructions of ÉKÖVIZIG and SVP OZ. Košice. Such provisions are applicable to all users of INFOPOINT services at ÉKÖVIZIG and SVP OZ. Košice. Compliance by all users is mandatory. Obligations and authorisations (both individual and departmental) relating to BOD/corporate users of the INFOPOINT are covered by the Director’s/Corporate Instructions and other Director’s regulations.
