  1. Software Defined Networks forDynamic Datacenter and Cloud Environments

  2. THE PROBLEM Conventional datacenter networks built around monolithic computing silos are far toocomplex, costly, and rigid for today’s highly dynamic datacenter and cloud environments. The result is unbalanced, underutilized network topologies that increase CAPEX and OPEX costs.

  3. THE SOLUTION What the modern datacenter needs is a fundamentally new networking model. A flat network architecture that leverages Affinity Driven Networking to fit the physical and packet network to the growing needs of today’s virtual and highly dynamic datacenter and cloud environments.

  4. THE SOLUTION Affinity Driven - SDN Control- Reconfigurable Packet and Circuit Network • CALIENT S320 Optical Circuit Switch • Pure photonic-layer switching • Handles high-capacity, on demand traffic flows • Plexxi Switch Ring • Packet Switching and Optical Multiplexing • Form a flexible layer 1/2/3 network topology that matches application workloads CALIENT S320 Optical Circuit Switch Fabric Plexxi Ring Server Racks/Clusters

  5. THE SOLUTION Affinity Driven - SDN Control - Reconfigurable Packet and Circuit Network Cloud Management(e.g. OpenStack) Virtual Servers/Compute Virtual NetworkOverlays Network Analytics Network Services Security Policy Workload Affinities CALIENT S320 Optical Circuit Switch Fabric Network Orchestration Plexxi Ring Server Racks/Clusters

  6. HOW IT WORKS An Affinity describes relationships between datacenter resources based on well known tendencies and needs for network end points to communicate with each other Based on Affinities, Plexxi Control fits network connectivity and topology to optimize application workloads Driven by Affinity Networking, application workloads get the network they need when they need it For scaling out datacenters, small and large persistent traffic flows are routed through the hybrid Plexxi switch ring and CALIENT S320 Optical Circuit Switch fabric network

  7. USE CASE EXAMPLES Scheduled Events • Virtual Machines migration (Server Virtualization) • Storage application data migration (Network Storage) • MapReduce applications Real Time Events • Network monitoring request for additional bandwidth (Network Monitoring and Analytics)
