  5. Internal Conflict Struggle that happens on the inside • Emotions • Struggles • Needs Man vs. Himself

  6. External Conflict Character struggles against an outside force * another character * nature * society

  7. Rising Action Complications that build suspense

  8. Climax The most intense moment in the plot Turning Point

  9. Resolution The problems in the story are resolved

  10. Setting Time and place of a story

  11. Narrator • The person who tells a story

  12. Point of View Vantage point from which an author tells a story

  13. Omniscient POV The narrator can tell readers what all the characters are thinking and feeling

  14. Third Person Limited POV The narrator is not a character in the story, but he zooms in on ONE character’s thoughts and feelings

  15. First Person POV The narrator is a character in the story Uses: I We Me My

  16. Symbol • When something represents something else • Ex: Dove symbolizes peace • Flag symbolizes country • Eagle symbolizes freedom, strength, USA
